U15's V Fall Bay/Gorseinon Combined XV

On a gloriously wet and windy opening Sunday of the season, we travelled deep into the Gower to take on a mixed team from Fall Bay and Gorseinon!   With a very strong breeze going straight down the pitch it was going to make running rugby difficult.  We started against the wind in the first half and match rustiness showed in the opening 15 minutes with little to get either sides coaching staff or supporters excited.  Even seeing the holidaymakers caravans go past, heading home after their summer holidays added to the gloom.  'Falleinon' resorted to the kicking game and at nearly every opportunity kicked long and kept us back in our half for large parts of the opening quarter.  Eventually we managed to make inroads into their half and this resulted in our first score on 18 minutes when a well worked blindside move from a ruck saw scrum half Brandon Jones dive over for our first score of the 2017-18 season.  Not surprisingly the conversion was missed against the howling gale!  On the stroke of halftime, we crossed for our second try when the ball was moved nicely across the back line for fullback Steff Richards to cross over in the corner for a simple touchdown. Again the conversion was unsuccesful.  Half time score 0-10 to Gowerton.

Now with the wind behind us, the boys were confident of turning the possession we had into points and this was the case.  After just 3 minutes, skipper Troy Davies scored under the posts and finally Louis Davies had a simple conversion to make it 0-17.  Straight from the kick off, Brandon Jones kicked high and deep into Falleinon's twenty two and centre Gregor Divine won the race for the ball and scored under the posts.  Louis Davies converted once more, 0-24.  The floodgates were starting to open, and Falleinon's heads were dropping.  On 8 minutes, Troy Davies crossed for his second after another good couple of phased moves close to the line saw him easily canter over.  Louis Davies converted 0-31.  Holes were opening up all over the place and centre Gregor Devine  made full use of this going in for his second try on 10 minutes and three minutes later completing his hat trick.  Conversions were now being refused. 0-41 to Gowerton.  The opposition's fitness levels were becoming a factor and on 15 minutes Louis Davies got in on the act and crossed for a try 0-46.  In fairness to Falleinon they kept going and deserved their try on 19 minutes.  A well worked forward oriented move saw their burly prop crash over under the posts. The conversion was missed.  The fightback was soon quashed when we scored our 9th try on 21 minutes with centre Alex Graham-Wollard finishing off a good set of moves.  We continued to attack straight from the kick off, however an ambitious back of the hand pass out of a tackle by No 8 Cameron Jones went straight to the opposition centre who raced up the pitch and was clear.  However some great cover tackling by our defence stopped the move but from the resulting ruck Falleinon managed to go blind and dived in by the corner flag for their second try. 10-51.  The game's final try came with a minute or so left on the clock with flanker Sam Terry getting his first of the season and Gowerton's 10th of the day.  The coaching staff must have been pleased to get a run out prior to taking on Maesteg Welsh in next Sunday's Ospreys Cup match and no injuries to report either!  A good day all round, despite the unseasonable weather yes
