U15's v Carmarthen Athletic - Opposition show their strength

Following last season's 50 point defeat we knew this was always going to be a tough game especially on their own 3G pitch.  The game started badly with Carmarthen attacking from the off and after only 2 minutes had scored the opening try after some well worked moves seeing them deep in our 22 and from the resulting maul they picked up and drove over in the corner.  The conversion was missed 5-0.  Most feared the worst but credit to our squad they got stuck in and tried to play some attacking rugby but unfortunealy unable to convert some of the chances into points.  Each time Carmarthen had possession they looked dangerous and only some stout defending saw us keep them at bay.  On 24 mins we eventually had some joy as a loose defensive kick from one of the Carmarthen backs saw the ball come to scrum half Brandon Jones who set off on a run towards the line and with a pass to winger Scott Cornelius, Scott evaded his opposing winger to score a deserved try in the corner.  The conversion by Alex Hughes was unsuccessful.  There were no further scores in the half and the teams were level 5-5.

Despite the score, Carmarthen always looked the more threatening side on the attack.  After 6 minutes they crossed for their second try of the game with a score in the corner, the conversion missed, 10-5.  Three minutes later they crossed for their third, again in the same corner of the pitch, the difficult conversion missed, 15-5.  Their flanker and skipper was at the heart of everything and was causing our defence a great deal of problems.  On 13 minutes he broke through our defensive line and sold a dummy to run in unopposed under the posts, which was converted, 22-5.  3 minutes later the flanker made a clean break and nobody managed to lay a hand on him and once again raced in under the posts to make the conversion a formality, 29-5 after 16 minutes.  Visions of last year started to creep in but thankfully this time the boys stuck at it and didn't throw in the towel and tried to get back into the game.  Sadly we didn't manage another score in the game but we kept them from scoring too in the last quarter.  Final score 29-5 to a very strong and powerful Carmarthen Athletic team.
