Gowerton fail to turn up

After recent performances there was, perhaps, reason to feel optimistic about the trip to Amman Utd. But, quite simply, Gowerton failed to turn up. Blown away in the wind.

The team is better than this, and they did actually begin well, putting early pressure on Amman ball. Rhys D was held up just short of the line. It was against the run of play that saw Amman find a gap in midfield to burst through and open the scoring. Gowerton responded by stringing together some fine back moves, with Josh H and Rhys finding space out wide, but without any real penetration. And there were early signs of the malaise to follow as they were constantly second best at the ruck.

Ethan H and Elliot H were making progress up front but it was too little and they were often isolated. The scrum was also beginning to find reverse gear. They did, however, finish to half well with Ieuan E making several good runs and Elliot H going close twice.

It was a spectacular start to the second half with Charlie S retrieving the ball from kick off to run clear and go over. But that was the high point as the intensity fell away alarmingly. This resulted in 4 unanswered scores as Amman Utd ran away 29-7 winners.

Why the drop off ? Especially having just got back into the game. They will need to turn things around quickly as next up….Waunarlwydd.
