Gowerton outlasted in return to action

It was, perhaps, the lack of match sharpness that ultimately cost the buys a victory. Just a few too many errors and, crucially, at key moments in the game.

But it was good to be back and there was plenty to be positive about. A solid scrum, with Ieuan E at the base, a real find as he contimnues to mix up a powerful running game with intelligent decision making in tandem with his no.9. Elliot H grows in confidence at the lineout and Josh P is finding the try line with increasing frequency. A combative front and back row offer not only an attacking threat but solid defence as well.

In the backs, there is a more robust look with the Charlie's and Josh B in midfield and the ever improving Kobe B, Josh K and Jake T occupying the wide berths.

Gowerton started well and Alex J made a good early kick return to set the tone. Elliot H disrupted an early Burry Port lineout and Jac S was finding his touch with some good kicking. Charlie W made a good break that was carried on by Ethan H, resulting in a drive that came up just short.

Rhys D came to the party midway through the half with some incisive running and with Kobe B offering good support they made gains deep in to the oppostion half. Elliot H secured a resulting lineout and with the forwards piling in, it was Josh P who went over to open the scoring.

The game was well balanced with Burry Port moving the ball well, but Gowerton held firm and were tackling well. Then, just before half time an attempted clearance was blocked and Burry Port returned the ball under the posts to edge ahead at the break. 5-7.

As both teams tired, and injuries mounted, it was a more open game in the second half. Rhys D made an excellent defensive cover tackle when Burry Port threatened to extend their lead and Charlie W came right back with a break in midfield to threaten the opposition. The forward line of Ethan H, Rhys J and James R were working hard at the coalface as the game ebbed and flowed but it was a break through the middle at close range that saw Burry Port extend their lead.

Sustained Gowerton pressure could not result in a score and despite a fine break from Charlie S and Charlie W, continued by Ethan H and Jake T, the final score was 5-14.

It was a good match to shed some rust. Plenty to build on and with a little luck the boys should turn the corner soon.
