Gowerton comeback to win thriller

With a forward pack flexing their muscle and a back line offering a constant threat this was, perhaps, the most complete performance of the season. The team, fresh and hungry, were powerful in the scrum and incisive in attack and just when the game seemed to be slipping away from them found the character and resolve to close out for a deserved win in a really entertaining game.

Gowerton made the early running with some probing runs from Charlie W and Alex J. Jacob T out wide was finding space and after one powerful run, found Charlie W in support who carried on for Kieran H to crash over the line. A great start.

From the kick off, Charlie S made a fantastic return of some 50 yards before a backs move involving Charlie W and Josh B on the crash ball nearly extended the lead.

It was one way traffic at this stage with Jacob T nearly over again before the forwards, including a fine debut from James R, joined the fun with the ever improving Ieuan E barging over from close range.

With Jac S providing a flow of quality ball, another backs saw Jacob T in space to power through several tackles before going over to make it 19-0.

Dunvant responded and it was only a great tackle from Rhys D that halted a move deep into Gowerton territory. But Dunvant kept up the pressure and despite some heroic defence and several phases they went over just before the half to make it 19-7.

Gowerton began the second half well, Josh P and Ieuan E hard to contain in the loose and with Kieran H probing once more. Charlie W kicked on well to set up another opportunity before Gowerton were held up close to the line. Dunvant were still well in the game though and began to turn the tide with more pressure. The defence was holding up well before an opportunist break in midfield saw Dunvant reduce the deficit.

Ieuan E made another break in response before being tackled just short. Back came Dunvant and over they went in the corner with just over 5 minutes to go to level the game at 19-19.

The boys were determined not to let the game go, and it was Ieuan E again who provided the impetus to go close with Jac S picking up to crash over from short range. Minutes later, Elliot H secured a line out that then moved 30 yards up the field in a great drive. More pressure followed before the excellent Ethan H secured the win from close range. 31-19.

A great game between well matched sides but Gowerton looked inventive and fresh and this was, perhaps, the difference.
