After waiting nearly 2 months for a game due to the weather and cancellations, the boys seemed well up for a match against a team we hadn't played before. Conditions were a bit soft but the weather was fair and condusive to running rugby. We started brilliantly with No. 8 Cameron Jones charging over for the first try in the first minute of the game, with No. 10 Louis Davies kicking the conversion, 0-7. In fairness to Bryncoch, they were always looking to attack but our defence held firm. On 11 minutes, a fine move from the back of a scrum saw centre Joe Richards cross for our second try, and another fine conversion by Louis so the lead double to 0-14. On 14 minutes some weak defending saw Bryncoch carve their way through our defensive line and some neat inter-passing saw them score under the posts. The conversion was good, 7-14. The game was being played at a good pace and both sides trying to play an expansive game. On 22 minutes, Cameron crossed for his second try of the game, as he dived over from close to the line. Conversion successful, 7-21. That was the end of the scoring in the first half.
The second half saw all the replacements come on and some re-shuiffling in the back line saw Alex Hughes move from full back to No. 10. The half came to light after 9 minutes when Sam Terry ripped the ball from the opposition's grasp and broke away towards the line , only to be stopped short, but managed to get the ball away to centre Gregor Devine who went over for an easy score. This was converted by Alex Hughes, 7-28. Bryncoch started to look a bit deflated and struggled to put any real phased play together. On 16 minutes, No. 8 Cameron Jones broke free and outrun the defensive line to cross over aka Chris Ashton with a slaute to the crowd while diving over.. The conversion was missed from far out, 7-33. A few minutes later scrum half Brandon Jones also barged his way through a tired defense to score a try which Louis Davies converted to make it 7-40. Our final try of the game came on 23 minutes when a well worked back line move saw winger Theo Evans dive over in the corner for his first try of the season. The conversion was missed. Final Score Bryncoch 7 Gowerton 45. A good performance in light of the lack of game time over the past 2-3 months. Hopefully a few mone games under our belts before the Ospreys Cup Semi Final at the end of the month.
